The Best small hot water urns for singles

Why is it that all hot water dispensers are so large? Honestly, unless you’re a family of 8 or are having a ton of guests over for dinner are you really going to go through THAT much tea or coffee? Probably not. Sometimes you just want a cup or two of coffee in the morning — especially if its just you.

I was single for a long time so I totally get it. It’s frustrating when EVERYTHING seems to be family size. That’s why I wanted to compile this list, of the best small Shabbos hot water dispensers for singles. (To tell you the truth, I don’t even like the word “singles” — I prefer individuals LOL).

I’ve standardized the measurements so that you’ll know the capacity of the urn in quarts, and the how many standard 250 ml cups it will dispense.

What makes a good hot water dispenser for singles?

  • Small enough to put into a cabinet — countertop space is precious in apartments!

  • Easy to unpack and repack — many singles live in rentals and move often

  • Cheap — living on a single income is tough!

  • Non-electornic — do you even really need an electric hot pot? They’re usually too bulky

  • Holds at least four-15 cups in case you have company over

  • Keeps water hot for 25 hours

  • Available from Amazon so you don’t have to drive to a specialty store (affiliate links)

I did the research and found the best four hot water urns for singles to use on Shabbos:

Classic Kitchen 2.5 Quart (8.8 cup) Electric Kettle Hot Water Pot, White $40

This is a great, basic urn that you can pick up for fairly cheap and not feel bad about throwing out when you get married. It’s easy to use, has a non-electric pump and is small enough to not be a burden.

TOMAKEIT Thermal Carafe 2 Litre (8 cup), Stainless Steel $24

Simply fill this thermal carafe up right before Shabbos and it will last (almost) until Havdalah. It’s a super affordable, non-electric solution. You can also easily use it during the week by filling it with coffee or soup and bringing it to work.

Panasonic Electric Water Boiler Dispenser 3.2 quarts, (12 cup), White $95

This electric hot water dispenser is a bit pricier but has a few extra features to justify it. You can use it during the week to make a perfect cup of pourover coffee with it’s slow-drip function, and it has a child lock button, delay timer and four temperature settings for various kinds of tea.

Thermos Stainless King, 40 ounce 4.7 cup, Stainless Steel $23

What ever happened to a good old fashioned Thermos? This is the perfect size for a single, and doubles as a lunch container and water bottle. Just fill it up before Shabbat or Yom Tov and you can have tea and coffee all the way through shalosh seudos. You can even stick in the top rack of the dishwasher for easy cleaning. And you’ll never have to throw this one out since it ALWAYS comes in handy.
